Another Fantastic Snow Sculpture in St. Nicholas Park

Today, another amazing sculpture appeared where another had been created a couple of weeks ago. Look at the photos below. Seem like this is either Poseidon or Neptune. This one is quite stunning to say the least. We suspect it was made by the same artist couple who made this. Enjoy it now just south of the Hamilton Grange near the wet 141st Street entrance.

Dog owners asked to be cautious in dog run due to city-wide threat

NYC PARKS and PEP (Parks Enforcement Patrol) reports that a Craig’s list posting threatens to place poison in New York City dog runs. This notice has been released to all park organizations throughout the New York City. It could be a hoax, but we wanted to let dog owners know how they can be extra cautious and what to do in case they find something.

1. When entering the dog run, please study it carefully BEFORE unleashing your dog.
2. If you spot ANYTHING suspicious, IMMEDIATELY call the police, pep, and 311. Stay nearby until police arrive.
3. Do not touch anything suspicious and do not let any dogs near it.
4. Be vigilant right OUTSIDE of your dog parks. If someone truly intends to poison dogs, placing laced food near the dog runs is a way to avoid being easily spotted. Again- if you spot anything, report it immediately.
5. If you hear or see anything, please let the Friends of St. Nicholas Park know.

Again, this could be a hoax but just in case, please be cautious…

Harlem Hip Hop Digger’s Delight to entertain St. Nick Park in August

The month of August is Digger’s Delight time! Harlem Hip Hop comes to St. Nicholas Park beginning next Tuesday, August 4th at 4pm. Other dates and info below.

Shakespeare in St. Nick Park! June 25th and June 28th

Shakespeare comes to St. Nicholas Park this summer with 2 performances by Theatersmarts. Maura Kelly directs the family friendly comedy Much Ado about Nothing. This family oriented comedy is set to the world of baseball. The performance takes place on Thursday, June 25th at 7pm and Sunday, June 28th at 4pm. All performances will be at the 135th Street Plaza in St. Nicholas Park where audiences can sit on the lawn and enjoy the entertainment.

Theatersmarts strives to bring the classics and arts to families and communities.

Make Music New York in St. Nicholas Park on June 21st

The city-wide event Make Music New York features dozens of musicians from around the city. This year in St. Nicholas Park we’ll have musicians performing in that 135th Street Plaza from 5pm-9pm. The Yaz Band performs from 5-6pm, Lynne Watson and Postive N-ergy perform from 6-8pm followed by Last Tribe NYC from 8-9pm.

St. Nicholas Park Tours for the Summer

This Summer, our Gardener, Jennifer Brull will be giving a general tour of the park and landscaping features, discussing plans for future plantings and will be available to answer any questions you may have. This will be a monthly event, Thursdays at noon. Meet at the 135th Street Plaza. Future tours are scheduled so far for:

* Thursday, June 25, 12pm
* Thursday, July 23, 12pm
* Thursday, August 27, 12pm

Group Dog Training 8am-9am, Saturday, June 6th before Coffee Bark

Before June Coffee Bark, next Saturday June 6th, the St. Nick’s Dog Run will be host to a group training from 8am to 9am. Leroy Darby, owner and certified trainer of A Pawsitive Dog, Inc. will be on hand to offer a group lesson at a discount for our dog run community. At this time the large dog run will be closed. Information is below. If you are interested please let the Friends of St. Nicholas Park know by emailing us at dogpark@stnicholaspark.org.

New Trees added to St. Nicholas Park!

As many may have noticed, there are dozens of new trees being planted in St. Nicholas Park this week. This is part of a new initiative to plant tree species that are part of the original Samuel Parsons design of the park. Parks workers are also pruning trees and cutting down diseased or partly diseased trees.

Please use caution and be careful when near workers planting or cutting down trees. If there are any questions about this initiative you can email us at info@stnicholaspark.org
